What To Look For When Choosing The Best Scrubs

Scrubs are a necessity, often taken for granted in the healthcare field. They designate healthcare staff, offer comfort and flexibility, protection from contamination, and make working easier.

There are many other benefits to wearing comfortable, well-made scrubs, and knowing your scrubs will help you select the right ones for you and your job.

With that said, we will help you learn just how to choose the best scrubs, why you should choose them, and what additional benefits you get by carefully choosing them.

Making a Choice WithThe Many Options of Scrubs

Most healthcare workers aim for simplicity when choosing their scrubs. Some do pay attention to fashion scrubs, and there are many benefits to doing so. Even choosing your sizes requires some tricks to get the best fit. Here are some tips for choosing styles and sizes.

1. Do You Like Basic or Printed Scrubs More?

You should ask yourself if you prefer the basics look (solid colors, muted tones), or if you would rather express yourself more through more adventurous prints and patterns. Which option makes you feel the most comfortable?

Wearing scrubs that make you feel more comfortable and suit you better can make you feel more confident. You spend all day at work; you might as well feel your best.

2. Do You Prefer Mock Wraps or V-necks?

To choose between mock wraps and v-necks, you need to decide if you want to go for a slimmer look with the mock wrap, or if you’d rather stick to a basic v-neck?

Mock wraps give the illusion of a slimmer look,  while still remaining very comfortable. The mock wrap doesn’t come with a chest pocket, though, so you need to weigh if you need the pocket in your everyday duties. If your answer is yes, then you should stick to the v-neck.

3. Do You Want the Benefits of Pockets?

As mentioned before, the chest pocket is a significant thing to consider when choosing your scrubs. It’s one of those things where you may not realize how important it is until you don’t have it. Think about how much you use it.

In addition, you should consider how much you put into that pocket, especially if it’s the only one you have. If loading the chest pocket places painful pressure on your shoulders and neck, you should consider other options for essential and possibly not elect for the chest pocket at all.

Patch pockets, such as the ones in our Cambridge scrub top, are important for those who carry items regularly in their scrubs.

4. Do You Want Raglan or Set-In Sleeves?

Sleeves may seem small, but workers like physicians and dentists are often picky about these details. So, what are your options?

A raglan is a sleeve that extends to the collar of the scrub instead of ending at the shoulder. It’s attached using slanting seams that run from under the arm to the neck. Set-in sleeves are joined to the body of the scrub by a seam that begins at the edge of the shoulder and continues around the armhole.

You might choose raglan sleeves because they are more comfortable. They also tend to be easier to clean. The set-in seams can cause itchiness in the underarm. So, if you have sensitive skin, you might elect for a raglan sleeve.

5. Do You Prefer Side Slits?

Side slits and vents, such as those in our grey label Shelby scrub top, help you move efficiently, and the vents give more air, helping you stay cool while you work. While ease and comfort are essential, you should consider the length and size of the scrub you wear. If your top is small in size and shorter in length, side slits will likely expose your waist. For these cases, elect not to choose the side slits.

If your pants have back and front pockets and your scrub top is small with a more extended center back length, side slits will help reach for the pockets.
